Who We Are

The County

Established in 1873, Lonoke County is the only county in Arkansas whose county seat bares the same name as the courthouse. Its name originates from a “lone oak” tree that stood on the site of the present county seat. This tree was used as a local landmark by a railroad surveyor.

While the county seat is Lonoke, Cabot is the largest city. As of the 2010 census the county population was 68,355. Area attractions include the Smoke Hold Natural Area, Toltec Mounds State Park, Camp Nelson Confederate Park and the Joe Hogan Fish Hatchery – one of the world’s largest working fish hatcheries. Cities located in Lonoke County include: Allport, Austin, Cabot, Carlisle, Coy, England, Humnoke, Keo, Lonoke and Ward.

The Office

The 23rd Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office includes the elected prosecuting attorney, the chief deputy prosecutor, and six deputy prosecutors. One of the primary functions of this office is the pursuit of justice. This includes the prosecution of criminal activity occurring within Lonoke County. These criminal offenses range from non-violent crimes such as theft and forgery to more serious violent crimes such as rape and murder.

There are two victim-witness coordinators available to assist victims through the criminal justice process. This office also prosecutes persons who write hot checks and recovers restitution for area merchants. There is one hot check coordinator who handles the restitution for merchants. The office also has six support staff that assist in making the office run efficiently.
